Dr. Ravi Elluru Earns Top Honors with The Triological Society Dr. Ravi Elluru has earned high honors from The Triological Society with the Edmund Prince Fowler Award. This award was given to him for his thesis “Fibroblast Growth Factor 18 Provides Directional and Proliferative Cues to Developing Upper Respiratory Tract Cartilage.
Revered as one of the most prestigious awards, Edmund Prince Fowler, Sr., MD, was the president of The Triological Society in 1932. He was considered a giant in otology and was an advocate for the hard of hearing. In his honor, the Edmund Fowler Award was established in 1971, given each year for the best in thesis research.
Dr. Elluru will also be inducted into The Triological Society as an Active Fellow in May at The Triological Society's 112th Annual COSM Meeting in Phoenix.

Gutmark Named Distinguished Research Professor Effie Gutmark, PhD, professor of aerospace engineerin and otolaryngology, was named the "Distinguished Research Professor" award winner by the UC Board of Trustees. The award is the highest level of faculty recognition for achievements and contributions in research at UC. Dr. Gutmark is also the director of the UC Voice Consortium.
Shanmugam “Mugam” Murugappan, PhD takes first place for his poster presentation at the 16th Annual Dysphagia and Research Faculty Meeting.
Mugam was awarded first place for his Scientific Abstract Poster Presentation titled “Acoustics and Aerodynamic Mechanisms of Wet Voice”. Understanding the “wet voice” can be difficult to diagnose and introduces disagreements between physicians.
“The poster was on improving our understanding of ‘wet voice’ (gurgly sounding voice) and develop an objective tool to diagnose aspiration. “
Mugam’s poster presentation is part of the on-going research with the departments, UC Voice Consortium. Researchers, such as Mugam, are solving the mystery of the voice making it easier for new medical treatments and more efficient diagnosis'.
